Education and Early Career

Adrien Brody was born on April 14, 1973, in Queens, New York, to a photographer mother and a history professor and painter father. His father was a Polish Jew, and his mother, a Catholic from Hungary, was the daughter of a Hungarian Catholic aristocrat and a Czech Jew. As a child, Brody took acting classes and appeared in plays. He later attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. He studied at SUNY Stony Brook before transferring to Queens College, where he completed only one semester. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles, the heart of the American film industry.

Brody made his big-screen debut in 1989 in New York Stories, a three-part film exploring the lives of New Yorkers. The segments, directed by Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, each told very different tales. Brody played the role of Mel, which gave him a strong cinematic start.
